You already know our Creative Director, Joyce Azria. Now meet the #GenGirl behind her. We chatted with her executive assistant, Sammy Aiello, about what it means to be Joyce’s right hand woman.
Q – What does an executive assistant do?
A – I handle Joyce’s schedule. She’s a busy woman, so there’s lots to do! I make sure her meetings happen on time, that all pressing items are passed through her for approval, and anything else she might need. I’m basically her real-life Siri.
Q – How did you end up at BCBGeneration? Take us through your journey.
A – I actually started as a ballerina! I’ve been trained in ballet my whole life and received my BFA in Dance from UCSB, which is how I ended up in LA. But my past internships have been with fashion companies, so I’ve always had a passion for it. After college, I reached out to a few recruiters and one of them introduced me to Joyce. We just clicked from the very first moment we met. I knew she was someone I was going to share a special connection with. The rest is history.
Q – What’s your typical day like?
A – Every day is so different, but I do start every morning by reviewing Joyce’s schedule. But the day can range from accompanying her on a campaign shoot to managing her business and creative meetings. A creative director does a lot and I’m here to make sure it all flows seamlessly. After work, I head over to ballet class. I love staying active and finds it always keeps me energized.
Q – Tell us about your personal style.
A – “Fierce” is my middle name. I love dressing edgy and black is my favorite color. It makes me feel like a NY transplant even though I’m from sunny Orange County.
Q – If you could raid one person’s closet, who would it be?
A – I am obsessed with Alexandra Park from the E! Online series “The Royals.” Her wardrobe is beyond.
Q – Favorite piece from our collection right now?
A – The lace mock-neck dress from our last editorial. It’s a stunner.
Q – How do you spend your weekends?
A – I love my weekends. If it’s summer, you’ll find me at the beach. As it’s currently winter, I’ll probably be at brunch or getting some shopping in. Saturday’s are for adventures. I use Sunday’s to relax.
Q – Best advice you’ve ever received?
A – Can’t go wrong with some words from Maya Angelou: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”
Q – Best part about your job?
A – Hands down, it’s the people I work with. I have made some of my best friends here. Everyone is so innovative, talented, and inspiring. I also feel incredibly lucky to be next to Joyce everyday and having the opportunity to learn from the best of the best!
