Blake Fawcett’s strong fashion sense combined with her relentless charm is what makes her such a great buyer. She’s got a sharp eye and a sharper intuition when it comes to knowing what #gengirls want. We chatted with our junior buyer to sneak you a peek at life inside the BCBGeneration office.
Q – How did you end up at BCBGeneration? Take us through your journey.
A – After college, I took a trip out to LA — chasing big city dreams of working in the fashion world. I landed my first job as a merchandise allocator for BCBG. After working with the buyers on my team, I realized that’s where my heart really laid. I transitioned into assistant buyer and three years later I’m still a GenGirl!
Q – Tell us about your personal style.
A – Girly with an edge. I love A-line silhouettes, ruffles, and lace; but also I’ll also add something edgier like a leather jacket, a bold bootie, or a hat.
Q – If you could raid one person’s closet, who would it be?
A – Blake Lively! Not just because we share the same awesome name, but because her style is always flawless on the red carpet and off.
Q – What does a buyer do?
A – We choose which merchandise goes into which stores. BCBGeneration has stores all over the U.S., so buying factors in the difference in climate and demographics for these locations. Our prerogative is to choose the best collection for each store — ensuring each customer’s fashion needs are met.
Q – What’s your typical day like?
A – It’s always different and I love that! But typically there’s a lot of analysis that goes into deciding what goes to each store. We take into account previous sales, the designers’ visions, and upcoming trends. My favorite part is when we go through all the samples to see how the styles can work together to form a collection.
Q – Best style tip you’ve ever received?
A – Dressing for your body type will always be the most flattering.
Q – How do you spend your Saturdays?
A – Lately I’ve been traveling a lot! But when I get to stay in California I usually like to get a good brunch in with my friends. A few of my favorite spots in LA include Everleigh on Sunset Blvd, Toast, Brick + Mortar, and Sonoma Wine Garden.
Q – Best part about your job?
A – The clothes! I love working with the product. There’s something awesome about seeing how a style goes from presentation to workshop and then to the store. I love to seeing how my favorite pieces sell.
