It would be hard not to notice Phoebe Ryan. The mermaid hair songstress not only has killer locks, but also a killer voice. The singer talks music, style, and what’s next for her.
Q – When did you start making music?
A – The first time I picked up a guitar was the 7th grade, but it wasn’t until 9th grade that I started writing and performing my own songs. I performed with a few bands that played around New Jersey, but I was also singing my little heart out at local coffee shops.
Q – How would you describe your sound?
A – Pop for sure, but on the edge of a lot of different genres as well. I love folk, R&B, and indie rock — I think my music incorporates the elements of all those as well.
Q – Your dream music collaboration — who is it with?
A – Justin Timberlake and Pharrell. I’ve been obsessed with JT since the 4th grade. He seems like such a cool person. Pharrell’s got that vibe too. I think we would work really well together.
Q – How would you describe your style?
A – I’m kind of a tomboy most of the time, so you’ll see me in vintage tees and jeans, but there are days when I gravitate towards more colorful and playful pieces.
Q – Who is your style icon?
A – You know who I love? Kimbra. She looks sophisticated, fun, and lovely — all at the same time.
Q – If you could only save one item from your closet, what would it be?
A – I have this amazing bomber jacket. It’s silk and sparkly; it’s my favorite thing ever.
Q – Any advice for someone trying to break into the music business?
A – Confidence in yourself and your work ethic is so important. Work harder than anyone else around you!
Q – What’s next for you?
A – A full length record, lots of touring, and lots of writing. Honestly, I can’t wait to see how 2016 unfolds.
