Meet GenGirl Emily Kretzer

An aquarius, a blonde bombshell, and a model on the rise — Emily Kretzer talks style, dreaming about Beyonce, and her favorite pizza topping.

Q – Tell us a little more about yourself. How did you end up in LA?
A – I’m a New York native, but I went to film school in Orange County, California. I’ve always had internships and modeling gigs in LA, so I made the move up about a year ago. I have family here so I’ve been visiting since I was a baby. There is something about living in Los Angeles that is endlessly inspiring to me — maybe it’s the romanticization of all these people out here following their dreams. For right now it’s definitely home.

Q – Describe your personal style?
A – I think an accurate, all-encompassing description for it would be laid-back, but refined. I love to incorporate one-off vintage finds like old, reworked denim or a dope satin jacket into my wardrobe. My parents, who are in their sixties, have lived through some very iconic times fashion-wise, so a lot of the really cool, rare pieces I own came from them. You can frequently find me in a pair of classic sneakers with denim cut-offs or high-waisted jeans and a cropped tee. I like to be comfortable and practical, but if it’s the weekend and I’m going somewhere I’ll break out the thigh high boots and a mini skirt.

Q – Favorite item from your closet?
A – This is so hard – I own a lot of gems! I did just come up on an amazing green shearling coat that’s very Penny Lane a la Almost Famous. That’s probably my favorite piece right now.

Q – Who is your style icon? I’m inspired by Rihanna and Cher Horowitz. Rih does cool girl glam and comfy casual like no other. Cher encompasses that classic 90’s aesthetic that I am forever trying to emulate.

Q – Zodiac sign?
A – I’m a very true to form Aquarius!

Q – Favorite pizza topping?
A – There’s a place in my hometown on Long Island that’s famous for their cold cheese slice. After they warm up the pizza, they add a handful of shredded mozzarella on top. It’s a game changer!

Q – Something you can’t leave the house without?
A – My phone, a disposable camera, and an extra set of contacts.

Q – Last thing you dreamt about?
A – Last night I dreamt I went to Temple with Jay Z and Beyoncé. I’m not Jewish and as far as I know they aren’t either, but I’ll convert if it means breaking challah with them both.

Q – What do you have planned for 2016?
A – This year I’m working towards focusing more on my broadcast journalism aspirations. I love modeling and want to continue with it for as long as I can, but what I’m really interested in is talking to people, getting to know them, and sharing what I’ve learned with the rest of the world. I’m chatty and curious and interviewing people is something that comes very naturally to me. I’m not 100% happy unless I’m creating, so this past year I started building a platform where I would have an outlet to do just that. It’s still in its developing stages so I’m keeping it under wraps for the time being; but it’s a culmination of my passions and I’m really looking forward to launching it. For now, you can follow along on my personal Instagram for any updates on the project.
