Beauty 101: Caring For Curls

We think there are a lot of tips out there for curling your hair, but not enough for how to maintain hair that’s already curly. Rest assured, we’re here to change that! Not all curly hair is the same, so how you handle yours shouldn’t be. We break down the three common types of curls and what you should be doing to keep them awesome.

Wavy Hair: Wavy hair usually falls in an S-shaped. Those with wavy hair should focus on reducing frizz and creating definition.
Opt for leave-in serums and heat protectant for the former. A good run with a hot iron will help with the latter.

Curly Hair: Curly hair is typically more defined and you’re more likely to see ringlets.
Stay away from any drying ingredients — instead, opt for creams, gels, and leave-in conditioners.┬áThe focus is to retain moisture.

Coily Hair: Coily hair is known for shrinkage — making it appear shorter than it actually is.
These types of curls can be prone to tangles, so moisturizer plays a key role.
Coconut oil is good for deep condition and natural ingredients like mango and shea butter are good moisturizers.
